Biden was photographed disembarking from Marine Force One in the Hamptons while holding onto his wife, Jill Biden’s, arm on Saturday afternoon, just two days after his vulnerable appearance with President Donald Trump in the first 2024 presidential debate.
Biden, 81, and the first lady looked united in matching blue outfits at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach.
The couple are due to attend a star-studded fundraising party at the home of hedge fund billionaire Barry Rosenstein and his wife Lizanne.
According to the East Hampton Press, A-listers including Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, and Michael J. Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan are said to have paid as much as $250,000 to befriend the president.
But well-heeled attendees were said to have been “very disappointed” by Biden’s stumbling debate performance on Thursday, which raised serious questions about his mental state.
“Since everyone had paid up front, this could be an opportunity to encourage him to drop out,” a source at the event told The Post.
Biden’s performance in the debate was abysmal, appearing frozen at times and including a bizarre boast about the fact that his administration “finally won Medicare.”
The president, who will be 86 when his second term ends in January 2029, reportedly spoke in a soft, husky voice, possibly due to a lingering cold.
He was later helped off the debate stage by 73-year-old Gilles, but the spectacle only sowed further doubts in Americans’ minds about his fitness to act.
“I sat there watching it and I couldn’t believe it. I said, ‘Not only is this a political hydrogen bomb for him and the Democratic Party, but what the hell just happened? What happened?'” Washington Post editor and Watergate reporter Bob Woodward lamented on MSNBC on Friday.
According to one poll, a staggering 82% of voters don’t think Biden should run for reelection in November.
Despite widespread calls for Biden to be removed from office, his campaign has insisted he remains a candidate and said they are already making preparations for another debate in September.
After his stop in the swanky Hamptons, Biden will head to the Garden State for another campaign event, this time at Gov. Phil Murphy’s seaside estate.
