WASHINGTON — President Biden is cutting short a weekend stay at his seaside resort and returning to the White House on Saturday evening in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
According to the latest schedule released to reporters, the 81-year-old president is scheduled to leave the Delaware coast at about 10:30 p.m. and arrive at the White House just after midnight.

Biden is expected to arrive at the White House in a motorcade and will not have to walk past reporters on the South Lawn to face shouted questions from reporters.

Biden, in remarks Saturday night, said the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was “horrible” and that he had attempted to call Trump, 78, who was being treated at a hospital near Pittsburgh.
The president appeared unaware that one of Trump’s rally attendees had been murdered while making these remarks.
“We still have more information on the other injuries. There may be injuries in the audience. I don’t have all the details on that,” he said. “I’ll let you know. I may be back a little later tonight, but if I don’t come back – if I don’t come back or it’s not convenient for you – I’ll make a statement.”
