On Thursday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) criticized President Joe Biden for claiming on FNC’s “Fox & Friends” that he would halt military aid shipments if Israel invaded Rafah.
Johnson argued that Biden’s decision was against the will of Congress.
“Now, Mr. Chairman, in a rare sit-down interview yesterday, Joe Biden said that he intends to halt shipments of bombs and shells to Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu orders further incursions into the population of Rafah and the Gaza Strip. “Fox & Friends” co-host Ainsley Earhart said. “What’s the response? Didn’t it? I mean, you guys said we’re going to give you money for these weapons, so send us these weapons. He’s going to do this without Congress.” Can you do it?”
“Ainsley, he is going against the will of Congress. And days later, he continues to give me written and verbal assurances from senior White House officials before that supplement was passed.” “Ignore them,” Johnson replied. “This idea that somehow Joe Biden would withhold arms from Israel as a condition of wanting to micromanage the war effort over there, the defense effort, is a devastating policy. It would be devastating for our closest allies in the region. , and would go directly against the will of what the members of this organization voted for just days ago.”
“So they have to answer to the American people, and they have to answer to us,” he added. “And we’re moving forward with that now.”
