This week’s State of the Union address emphasized the importance of the choice Americans have at the polls in November. President Biden’s speech laid out a bold vision for his second term that builds on the accomplishments he and Congressional Democrats have already secured for the American people during his first term in office. His vision continues to put people over politics, fighting for hardworking Americans in every corner of the country, defending our freedoms, and, of course, defending our democracy.
On Super Tuesday, I had the opportunity to hear directly from voters as I traveled through the diverse working-class districts I represent in North Texas. In these conversations, people in my district have talked about the challenges they face, including lowering the cost of goods Americans depend on every day, fixing our broken immigration system, and protecting the necessities of life. It became clear that we were looking for a trusted leader who would help us solve the daily challenges that we face. Reproductive rights.
As the leader of the solution-driven New Democratic Party Coalition, breaking the gridlock in Washington and serving hard-working Texans and families across the country will always be my top priority. President Biden’s State of the Union address emphasized that he and the Democratic Party have already made progress in breaking this impasse and addressing our nation’s most pressing challenges, and we will continue to work to complete that mission. Whether it’s getting us back from the pandemic or enacting the most important gun violence prevention legislation in decades, Democrats have listened to their constituents, acted, and delivered. President Biden’s State of the Union address made clear how we will continue to serve our constituents. Democrats and President Biden will fight to grow the middle class to give everyone equal rights, restore Roe v. Wade, make our communities safer, and more.
In contrast, a reckless and radical Republican Party is trying to plunge our country into chaos. They are guided by blind loyalty to a twice-impeached, multiple-time indicted fraudster who now must balance his time between court and campaigning. But most importantly, Donald Trump incited a deadly insurrection to overturn our democracy and touted misguided policies that have killed millions of his fellow citizens during a pandemic. Never forget. This is a man that the Republican Party respects, and it is clear that his MAGA extremism is having a negative impact on all layers of the Republican Party.
The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives has followed Donald Trump’s lead, going from crisis to crisis, making this Congress one of the most unproductive in modern history. Rather than working with common sense Democrats like President Biden and my colleagues in the New Democratic Coalition to address our challenges, they engage in partisan political stunts that hurt the American people. I have repeatedly chosen to do so. For example, Republicans recently proposed a comprehensive bipartisan compromise that would finally address our broken immigration system and help restore order at the border. I am a lifelong Texan and have been to the border many times. Like many Americans, I know it’s time to address this challenge that has plagued both Republican and Democratic-led administrations. Responsible lawmakers on both sides of the aisle want to make this happen, as months of bipartisan negotiations to craft recent border legislation have proven. But Republicans rejected the bill before it was even read, as Donald Trump argued that keeping the border status quo would improve his re-election chances.
We know that such cheap political stunts are not what real leaders do. Actual leaders will come to the table and put people over politics, just as President Biden and Congressional Democrats do every day.That is why the New Democratic Alliance Framework After Republicans rejected the bill, we will continue to fight for bipartisan immigration reform to break the partisan deadlock and deliver results for the American people.
This November, our nation has a chance to embrace the vision President Biden laid out in the State of the Union: to invest in the success of all Americans and protect the fundamental freedoms and democracy that make this country great. be.
