Joe Biden Faces Challenges in 2024 Campaign Video Production
A new book reveals that former President Joe Biden encountered difficulties while trying to film campaign videos for various groups during the 2024 election season. The book, titled “The Original Crime: President Biden’s Decline, Concealment, and His Disastrous Choice of Running Again,” suggests that much of the footage ended up being labeled “unusable” because Biden struggled significantly while filming.
Co-authored by CNN journalist Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, the book was released recently. It highlights instances where Biden’s team aimed to produce a campaign advertisement in a high school gym, attempting to project an image of the president engaging candidly with voters. However, logistical challenges arose, as the event was closed to the media, and the campaign had predefined questions for attendees.
Eventually, the team opted to discard the footage due to a range of “troubles” while filming. Issues like poor lighting were mentioned, but it appears Biden personally recognized deeper concerns at play.
Additionally, when Biden was requested to deliver a five-minute speech for a key event, the White House was only able to manage a one- or two-minute video. This tight timeline meant that Biden often struggled to deliver just a few lines without misstepping, causing frustration among those involved in the efforts.
One unnamed source, familiar with the situation, expressed concerns, saying, “He often couldn’t find the words and had trouble maintaining a coherent train of thought.” The comment underlines the struggles Biden faced while working on campaign materials.
The book also discusses how Biden’s extended participation in the race impacted then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, describing it as a “nightmare” scenario for Biden. A former campaign manager for Barack Obama, who was also an advisor for Harris, has stated that Biden’s prolonged candidacy disrupted Harris’s potential election strategy.
In response to the book’s claims, a former Biden staffer refuted its assertions, labeling them as falsehoods. Biden’s team has also pushed back against the narrative presented in the book, disputing claims of a cover-up regarding the president’s declining cognitive abilities. A spokesperson insisted there is no evidence to suggest that Biden has not fulfilled his duties or that national security has been compromised. They emphasized that Biden has been an effective leader who approached his presidency with empathy and competence.
This publication is one of several that explore Biden’s decision to run for a second term while documenting concerns regarding his cognitive health.
