Biden explains his choice to conclude his 2024 presidential re-election campaign in an interview.

Former President Joe Biden addressed the 11-hour decision to end his 2024 re-election campaign, stating in a BBC interview that he didn’t believe it was a significant issue.

At the age of 82, Biden stepped back from the race on July 21 following a Democratic backlash against his performance in a debate with President Donald Trump on June 27.

This situation prompted then-Vice President Kamala Harris to intensify her campaign for the White House for a stretch of 106 days, but ultimately, she lost to Trump.

“I departed when there were still viable candidates,” Biden mentioned on BBC Radio 4 during his first broadcast interview since taking office on January 20.

“We accomplished a lot on the agenda. It was difficult to say, ‘Now’s the time to stop,'” he added.

Biden claimed that he originally intended to serve only one term after Trump’s defeat in 2020. “I mean what I said at the start, and I’m getting ready to hand things over to the next generation… but everything has moved so quickly, making it hard to step away,” he commented.
