Biden finishes radiation therapy for prostate cancer and rings a bell

Joe Biden Completes Radiation Treatment for Prostate Cancer

Former President Joe Biden has finished a course of radiation therapy for an aggressive type of prostate cancer as of Monday.

He had been undergoing treatment for several weeks at Penn Medicine’s Radiation Oncology Department in Philadelphia. His daughter, Ashley Biden, celebrated this milestone on social media, expressing her gratitude to the medical team involved.

“Ring the bell! Thank you to the amazing doctors, nurses, and staff at Penn Medicine. We are so grateful!” she posted on Instagram.

Biden’s press secretary, Kelly Scully, confirmed the moment of celebration, stating that he indeed rang the bell, a common practice in cancer treatment centers to mark the completion of therapy and to inspire others in treatment.

Ashley also mentioned, “My dad was so brave throughout his treatment. I’m so grateful.”

It’s uncertain if Biden will require additional radiation treatments in the future.

Biden revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis in May, noting that it had metastasized and spread to his bones, which raised concerns regarding the transparency of his health from the White House. This added to ongoing discussions about the president’s health during his time in office.

Additionally, Biden underwent Mohs surgery on September 4 to remove skin cancer cells, as he has dealt with this issue during his presidency. The previous White House physician confirmed that cancerous cells discovered during a medical exam were successfully removed.
