Vice President Kamala Harris is representing the US with more than 50 world leaders at a peace summit on the war in Ukraine.

Harris will attend an event in Switzerland, while the president will attend a campaign fundraiser in Los Angeles hosted by actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts, which will feature interviews with former presidents Barack Obama and Biden moderated by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Health care is expected to be a focus.
Asked whether the president might be sending the wrong message by having Harris attend in his place, a White House spokesman said: “No leader in the world has been more supportive of Ukraine than Joe Biden.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky echoed similar sentiments in a statement at the meeting.
“Even though they are not present at today’s first summit, we have succeeded in bringing home to the world the idea that through joint efforts we can stop wars and establish a just peace,” he said.
Russia also did not attend, leading critics to consider the meeting pointless.
Swiss leaders hope that in future the conference will also include Russia.
