Former President Trump took responsibility for insulin pricing in a Truth Social post on Saturday.
“It was me and the Trump Administration who made affordable insulin possible for millions of Americans. [President Biden,]Trump Said In a post on Truth Social, he said, “He has nothing to do with this. This was all done long before he unfortunately took office. All he’s doing is trying to take credit for something someone else did, in this case me.”
President Biden hailed the passage of the Inflation Control Act, which caps insulin at $35 for Medicare beneficiaries, as a major achievement.
“Thanks to the Inflation Control Act, seniors on Medicare will pay only $35 a month for their insulin, instead of $400 a month,” the president said. Said It was posted on social platform X late last year.
The Biden campaign has made lowering prescription drug prices through inflation-busting legislation a key message in its reelection bid, and has touted the passage of the IRA as one of its greatest achievements.
The message is also aimed at contrasting with Trump.
“While Donald Trump was too weak as president to take on Big Pharma or lower prescription drug prices for seniors, Joe Biden got it done — and as a result, we’re seeing lower prices for the life-saving drugs millions of people rely on,” Biden campaign spokesman Seth Schuster said in a statement to The Hill.
Schuster also said that if the former president returns to the White House for a second term, “prices would skyrocket, and Americans who currently benefit from $35 insulin could be forced to choose between paying rent and buying essential medicines.”
