Biden impeachment probe ‘probably nearing the conclusion’: GOP’s Bacon

Republican Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska said Sunday that House Republicans are “probably nearing a conclusion” to the impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Bacon said he had spoken with lawyers for the committee leading the impeachment inquiry into Biden, and said there was “no specific crime committed” at this point.

“And in cases of felonies and misdemeanors, you’re going to need that. In hindsight, I think it was worth investigating to get the facts out there and for the public to see and make a decision,” Bacon said. he said in an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

Bacon said the details were “important” to the American people, but noted that “it is not a high crime or misdemeanor in and of itself.”

Asked if it was time for the Republican conference to end its investigation into Biden, Bacon said, “I don’t know if now is the time.” But I think this investigation is probably coming to an end. ”

House Republicans have struggled in recent weeks to conclude the impeachment inquiry into Biden, facing growing doubts from their own party about whether investigators found any wrongdoing.

The formal impeachment inquiry by House Republicans was aimed at adding legal weight to House Republicans’ claims that Biden was involved in his son Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) last week invited the president to testify before the committee on April 16.

White House Oversight and Investigations Press Secretary Ian Sams last week called the matter “a call for a sad stunt at the end of an impeachment that is going nowhere” and suggested that Comer “call it quits.”
