Biden ‘in It to Win It, I’m Damn Proud to Support Him’

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (Democrat) has endorsed President Joe Biden, saying she is “running to win” amid growing calls for him to drop out of the presidential race.

in post At the X, Whitmer said she was “proud to endorse” Biden as the party’s presidential nominee. Following the June 27 presidential debate, Biden has faced growing calls from several Democrats and donors to “stand down” and withdraw from the presidential race.

During the presidential debate with former President Donald Trump, Biden appeared frozen, struggled to finish his prepared closing statement and his voice croaked.

Biden is “fighting to win and I am proud to endorse him,” Whitmer said in the post.

Whitmer’s recent comments come on the heels of actor George Clooney writing an op-ed withdrawing his support for Biden as the Democratic nominee just weeks after hosting a Biden fundraiser. Others including Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) and New York Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado (D) have also called for Biden to withdraw.

Amid growing pressure to drop out of the race, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris met virtually and in person last week with Democratic governors to discuss “what it takes to win.”

After the meeting, Governor Whitmer and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (Democrat) issued statements in support of Biden.

“@JoeBiden is our nominee,” Whitmer said. “He’s fighting to win and I support him.”
