Biden Is Avoiding if He’s ‘Set and Fit to Serve’ and Verdict on that Is ‘Very Negative’

On Friday, CNN senior political commentator and former Obama adviser David Axelrod dodged the question of whether President Joe Biden “could serve until he’s closer to 90, not 80,” but said, “I think the verdict right now is very negative on that.”

Axelrod said:[T]The president was definitely more animated and engaged tonight. He wasn’t hiding from the public, he wasn’t hiding behind a teleprompter. But he seemed to be hiding from reality. And I think that needs to change, because the situation is grim, in terms of the president’s chances of winning. As the president said tonight, his track record is a great track record, and I respect and appreciate that. But that’s not what’s on the table, and the president doesn’t want to address what’s on the table. It’s about whether the president can serve until he’s closer to 90, not 80. And I think the verdict right now is very negative on that point.”

Earlier in the show, Axelrod said parts of Biden’s ABC interview were “sad” and that Biden “can’t seem to grasp the fact that people are having these questions about him.”
