Biden Is Focused on ‘Revitalizing’ Manufacturing, But Manufacturing Jobs Are Flat

During Bloomberg's “Balance of Power” broadcast on Friday, Heather Boushey, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said President Joe Biden is focused “right now on reinvigorating some of the U.S. manufacturing industry through the construction of new manufacturing facilities that we're seeing across the country.” She said she believes manufacturing jobs will grow in the future as those facilities are built, but that “right now, manufacturing jobs are plateauing.”

Boushey said, “Certainly, hiring has plateaued and we did lose some jobs last month. One of the things we're focused on with the Invest in America plan is how the President's plan is revitalizing some of the U.S. manufacturing industry through the construction of new manufacturing facilities that we're seeing all across the country at this time. So we've actually been watching very closely the construction job gains that you've seen, and we actually saw a big increase last month. We believe that as facilities are built, we'll see an influx of workers into the new sectors that we're building. But for now, manufacturing employment is plateauing.”
