Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) told CNN's “The Newsroom” Thursday that President Joe Biden's farewell address left him “genuinely concerned” about the country's future under the incoming Trump administration. He claimed that it shows that.
Host Jim Acosta said, “President Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office last night. He said that an oligarchy is taking over this country, that it has too much influence over this country. He talked about the fear of the high-tech industrial complex. As Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House, he issued a pretty stark warning to the public. What did you think of that?
“The comment really struck a chord with me. It reminded me of something, something President Eisenhower said when he left office. The general says the military-industrial complex has a huge influence on U.S. politics, forcing the U.S. into unnecessary military spending and hostilities. Those were very prescient words at the time, but I don't know if President Biden was consciously repeating them. I know that's a real concern, and I think a lot of Americans are too.”
Mr. Acosta asked, “Do you think oligarchy is prevalent in this country?”
Caine said, “You know I'm worried about the power of my tech buddies, who have billions of fortunes and want to be involved in politics, so they have free time.'' But they want to get involved in politics to build their own nest.”
