Joe Biden has issued multiple pre-emptive pardons.
The pardons include General Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of the Jan. 6 committee.
President Joe Biden on Monday pardoned General Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci and members of Congress who served on the commission investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
The pardons, issued in President Biden's final hours, amount to an unusual degree of flexibility in presidential power. They serve to protect several outspoken critics of President-elect Donald Trump, including former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, whom Trump has vowed retaliation against.
“Our nation depends on dedicated and selfless public servants every day. They are the lifeblood of our democracy,” Biden said in a statement.
“However, shockingly, public servants continue to be threatened and intimidated for faithfully carrying out their duties,” he continued.
