Gaffe by Former President Biden at LGBTQ Rights Forum
On Friday afternoon, former President Joe Biden stumbled over his pronunciation of “America” while addressing a forum on LGBTQ rights in Washington, D.C. This incident occurred during a moment when he criticized the Trump administration.
In his keynote speech, the 83-year-old politician seemed passionate yet faltered in his delivery, creating a somewhat awkward moment. “I still believe that we can come out of the many crises that this administration has created,” he stated, though he struggled with his words. “But we have no choice but to rise,” he added during his roughly 20-minute speech.
At one point, he mistakenly said, “We are the United States of Amerigoti,” before quickly correcting himself to “America.” He was receiving the Chris Abel Impact Award at the event hosted by the LGBTQ+ Victory Institute, which praised his administration’s efforts towards inclusivity.
Biden used the occasion to criticize the “MAGA Republican Party” for allegedly trying to undermine the fight for equality, accusing Trump’s administration of making gay rights a negative issue.
This gaffe comes amid ongoing discussions about Biden’s health and age, particularly during the final year of his presidency. Following a challenging debate performance against Trump in June 2024, he faced scrutiny over his cognitive capabilities and subsequently withdrew from the race the next month.
Earlier in 2024, his physician assessed that he was “fit to be president” after a routine examination. However, in May, Biden announced a diagnosis of “advanced” prostate cancer that had spread, revealing a more serious health challenge than initially recognized.
Currently, the Republican-led House Oversight Committee is looking into whether Biden’s state of mind and the usage of an autopen for signatures were covered up by his aides.
Since departing from the presidency, Biden has maintained a low profile, mostly engaging in medical updates and minimal public appearances.
