On Wednesday’s broadcast of NewsNation’s “The Hill,” Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) said President Joe Biden needs to call for an end to sanctuary cities.
“I was just listening to the mayor of New York say he wants to make changes to sanctuary cities,” Cuellar said. [policy]. We know how difficult it is for people to cross the river and the impact it has, so we can say that there are no sanctuary cities along the border. ”
Host Blake Berman then said, “Now, members of the White House are telling us the following. Here is a statement from the White House press secretary: ‘Local jurisdictions are ‘If you have information about an individual who may pose a threat to you.’ , we would like you to share that information with ICE. ”…. Congressman, in your opinion, does President Biden need to go further and say he should look at the American people, have a dialogue with the American people, and end sanctuary cities? ”
“In my opinion, he should go to the border. He should say, this is what we’re facing now, and if there’s a [are] Any sanctuary cities should be able to provide any information to ICE. Imagine a situation where ICE is unable to obtain information. Just like the people who attacked the police officer were unable to share that information and ended up being arrested somewhere in Arizona. So, again, you need to share the information with ICE. ”
Berman then asked, “But should we ask the president’s opinion on this?” It’s one thing to make a White House statement and it’s another thing to say we believe in this… concrete policy change, so should the president come out and say we need to end this?”
Mr. Cuellar replied: “Well, the president has to make that decision. But if I [were] My advice to him was, “Absolutely. Look people straight in the eyes, look, we need to address immigration. And if there’s a problem, say so.” [is] Anyone can do that [has] If they violate the law, they should be turned over to ICE. He should look people straight in the eyes and say this is what we have to do. ”
