President Biden announced Thursday that he will attend President-elect Trump's inauguration.
When asked by Meidas Touch host Ben Meiselas if he would be attending the event, Biden replied: “Of course I will. The only president I've ever avoided the inauguration of is the one who's about to take office.”
The White House announced last month that Biden and First Lady Jill Biden would attend Trump's inauguration. In August, the president indicated he would attend Trump's inauguration in January 2025 if he is re-elected.
“The president has promised that the person who wins the election will attend the inauguration. The president and the first lady intend to keep that promise and attend the inauguration,” White House chief deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said. Ta.
Trump did not attend Biden's 2021 inauguration as he faced backlash over Biden's actions related to the riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier that month.
Bates called Biden's attendance at the inauguration “an important demonstration of our commitment to democratic values and respect for the will of the people as we continue to carry out an orderly and effective transition of power.” He added that he was thinking about it.
Mr. Biden has touted a peaceful presidential transition, meeting with Mr. Trump last month and vowing a smooth transition of power in the White House.
