Former President Biden expressed his thanks for the outpouring of support he received on Monday morning, following the announcement of his prostate cancer diagnosis over the weekend.
“Cancer affects everyone. Like many of you, Jill and I have found that we are strongest in the places we’ve been broken,” Biden, 82, mentioned in a post on social media platform X, alongside images featuring him, First Lady Jill Biden, and their cat, Willow.
“Thank you for surrounding us with your love and support.”
A spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that the former president has an aggressive type of prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bone, which was identified after he noticed an increase in urinary symptoms last Friday.
After he unexpectedly canceled his reelection campaign in January, Biden, who had spent decades in public office before leaving the White House earlier this year, has recently reemerged in the public eye with notable interviews on platforms like the BBC and ABC’s “The View.”
Meanwhile, a new book is set to be released this week, diving into questions about his health during his presidency and his decision to seek another term.
Biden’s eldest son, Beau, passed away a decade ago from glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive brain cancer, having held aspirations that his father would one day reclaim the White House.
