By pardoning 39 Americans convicted of crimes and commuting the sentences of nearly 1,500 others, President Joe Biden has executed the largest presidential pardon in modern American history in one day.

He said the action would “help reunite families, strengthen communities and reintegrate individuals,” a goal of his broader pardon, according to a statement released by the White House on Thursday. It is said that it is a thing.

All of the roughly 1,500 commutations ordered by the Democratic president concern inmates released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus outbreak. as an emergency measure cares lawthousands of inmates were sent home to “stop the rapid spread of coronavirus” across federal prisons.

Mr. Biden said each of the men included in the sentence reductions had shown they were reunited with their families and committed to rehabilitation while serving time in remote locations.

The White House continued: “These benefit recipients have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities, demonstrating that they deserve a second chance.”

Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are pushing for thousands of federal inmates released during the coronavirus era to be returned to prison.

About 1,500 Americans will have their sentences reduced, but their convictions will have their sentences reduced. The criminal verdicts of the 39 people Biden pardoned were completely overturned.

The White House said all 39 people had “convicted nonviolent felonies,” including serious drug convictions.

“As President, I will extend mercy to those who have shown remorse and rehabilitation, restore opportunities for Americans to participate in everyday life and contribute to their communities, and take steps to eliminate sentencing disparities, especially for nonviolent offenders. “These are people who have been convicted of drug crimes,” Biden said.

With this widespread act of clemency, Biden has now issued nearly 1,700 pardons and commutations throughout his four years as president. Former Democratic President Barack Obama granted pardons to 1,927 people over his two terms, mostly through pay cuts. In one of his final acts as president in 2017, Mr. Obama commuted the sentences of 330 federal prison inmates convicted of drug crimes, marking the second-largest single-day pardon. Ta.

Conversely, Donald Trump “pardoned 74 people and commuted the sentences of 70 others.” NBC News Reported. He maintained that a thorough investigation of each individual charged was carried out in the decision-making process.

President Biden recently granted a full pardon to his son Hunter on federal firearms and tax charges earlier this month, despite repeated promises. However, even allies of the Democratic Party harshly criticized this action. According to recent information, Associated Press Polls show that only 20% of Americans supported the Hunter pardon move, showing how much the majority of Americans accept that they were fooled by Biden.

The White House added, “In the coming weeks, the President will take additional steps to provide meaningful second chances and continue to consider additional pardons and commutations.” He suggested that he would use his pardon power again.
