President Biden said Friday that he believes the upcoming 2024 election will be fair, but expressed skepticism that it will be peaceful.
In his first press conference since taking office, Biden was asked about his confidence that a free, fair and peaceful election will be held in November.
“I'm confident it will be free and fair. I don't know if it will be peaceful,” he said.
“What Mr. Trump said, and what he said when he didn't like the results of the last election, was very dangerous. As you may have noticed, the Republican nominee for vice president did not say he would accept the results of the election. has not even accepted the results of the last election.” “So I'm worried about what they'll do.”
Biden was referring to Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio)'s remarks about the 2020 election during the vice presidential debate earlier this week. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democratic), Harris' running mate, asked Vance if former President Trump lost the 2020 election.
Vance responded, “Tim, I'm focused on the future.”
“That's a complete non-answer,” Mr. Walz replied.
The Harris campaign then released an ad bashing Vance over this monumental campaign moment.
Biden similarly said in August that he had “no confidence” that there would be a peaceful transition of power if Trump loses the November election.
“He means what he says. We don't take him seriously. He means it.” Biden claimed at the time that Trump and his allies were about the economy. “If we lose, it will be a disaster,'' he said, referring to his comments made in March.
