President Joe Biden thanked campaign donors on Sunday and predicted that Democrats would keep Vice President Kamala Harris as a key figure in the party despite their crushing election loss.
“You're not going anywhere, kid. We're not going to let you,” Biden told Harris during remarks at the Democratic National Committee's holiday reception.
The couple was joined by their spouses at a reception where they tried to stoke the egos of major donors, encourage them not to give up hope after losing the election, and try to piece together the remains of Biden's fading presidency.
In addition to Donald Trump's victory in the White House, Republicans gained majorities in the House and Senate, giving them sweeping control on Election Day.
A reckoning has begun within the party as Democrats consider where they went wrong and what, or who, they need to change to appeal to the American people in the wake of their crushing defeat.
“We all get knocked down. My father used to say, when you fall, get up. The measure of an individual and a party is how quickly they get back up,” Biden told donors at a holiday event. Ta.
Donors from both parties spent an astonishing $4.7 billion during the 2024 campaign, most of which went to Harris' campaign during her speedrun for the Democratic nomination in the final stages of the campaign.
Harris said Democrats have raised $2.9 billion, including $700 million in just 700 Democratic-sponsored events, with support from allied super PACs and other partisan groups.
“You all rallied, you opened your homes, you reached out to your friends and family,” Harris said Sunday.
“You risked your personal capital, your relationships, to talk to people, because you care so deeply that you connect with people and find out what's at stake, what's going on. Because I took the time to remind them of what they were at risk for.”
Biden acknowledged that many Democrats still feel a burning burn after Trump's victory, but said they should still be proud of what they were able to accomplish.
“We could never have accomplished so much without you,” Biden said.
“I think you did more than just contribute to the campaign. You were willing to lend your name, your reputation, your personality to the effort.”
