Biden Defends Autopen Use Amid Trump Allegations
On Wednesday, former President Joe Biden emphasized the use of autopen signatures, asserting that he is in control of the White House. This response comes after President Donald Trump initiated an investigation into the Biden administration, suggesting that top officials utilized these signatures to obscure concerns about Biden’s cognitive abilities.
Biden stated, “I have made decisions about pardons, Executive Orders, and laws. The claim that I didn’t make these decisions is both ridiculous and false.” He further described Trump and Congressional Republicans as attempting to distract from significant issues like Medicaid while advocating for policies that would elevate costs for American families.
Trump called for an inquiry by the Attorney General regarding Biden’s administration, alleging that there might be a conspiracy to mislead the public regarding Biden’s mental state and the utilization of autopen for presidential actions.
In a memo, Trump highlighted the immense power a sitting president holds with their signature, pointing out that it can change words into laws, appoint individuals, and even grant clemency. He claimed that Biden’s aides have exploited this authority through the autopen to conceal Biden’s alleged cognitive decline while executing presidential duties.
“This conspiracy is one of the most dangerous scandals in American history,” Trump stated. “The American people were intentionally kept in the dark about who was really behind these executive actions.”
Trump also suggested that aides have been hiding Biden’s perceived incompetence, conducting essential governmental actions without proper transparency.
The investigation led by House Republicans, chaired by James Comer, began last month. It aims to assess whether Biden was mentally fit to utilize autopen signatures during his presidency, especially considering his health issues towards the end of his term. Comer indicated that he is willing to summon Biden for questioning on this matter if needed.
