In a radio interview on Thursday, President Biden said his performance in the debate with former President Trump was “bad,” but argued that his accomplishments during his own term in office were more important.
“It was a terrible night,” Biden said. 4th of July Interview With radio host Earl Ingram. “And the truth is, I failed.”
Speculation about whether Biden will remain the top contender has dogged the campaign, prompting calls from some in the media for him to step down.

“I made mistakes,” he told Ingram, “but I learned from my dad that when you get knocked down, you just get up.”
“And, you know, we’re going to win this election,” Biden continued. “We’re going to defeat Donald Trump. And just like we did in 2020, we’re going to defeat him again. But we’re going to need all of you to do it. All of you.”
“The debate didn’t go well,” Biden said. “It was 90 minutes on stage. Look at what I’ve accomplished in the last three and a half years. I brought our economy back from the brink of collapse. It’s still getting better. We’ve got a lot more work to do. I lowered prescription drug prices. I worked with Republicans to expand health care for veterans.”

Biden also answered a question about “black jobs,” referencing comments made by Trump during the debate that illegal immigrants are taking “black jobs” and “Hispanic jobs” from Americans.
“You asked me about ‘black jobs,'” Biden said. “You know, [Trump’s] By ‘Negro jobs’ he means any job that a Negro can do is manual labor, or simple labor.”
“List the things he’s done to give people opportunities, to help the Black community, like I did with college, education, home buying,” he said.
