During Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” David, a senior CNN political commentator and former adviser to President Obama, said President Joe Biden “didn’t have a good answer for what people should expect in the future based on what they’re seeing now.” He also noted that Biden said he “needs to get out there more,” before “complaining about the length of my schedule and saying I didn’t perform well in the debates because I packed too much into my schedule.”
Axelrod began: “First of all, I think it was a wise move to hold this at a NATO meeting as if it were a State of the Union address. He’s very comfortable in the atmosphere of Congress and NATO meetings, that’s his forte. And you could see that in the second half of the press conference, he’s very comfortable there. He’s very familiar with national security issues, and that showed in his answers. There were some issues in the answers that you played back, where he mispronounced names, he stumbled over words.”
He continued, “The other thing is, he said he needs to get out there and do more because he needs to ease people’s fears, but at the same time, he complained about the length of his schedule and said I couldn’t do well in the debates because I had too much on my schedule. And that’s really the issue. It’s not about his record or his history, it’s about his ability to move forward. And when he was asked those questions, he didn’t really have a good answer for what people should expect in the future based on what they’re seeing now. So I don’t think that’s changed much. I think a lot of attitudes have hardened now. I don’t think he’s going to change that.”
