Biden Discusses Ongoing Engagement with World Leaders
Former President Joe Biden revealed on Wednesday that he still receives calls for advice from European leaders and other officials, reflecting his ongoing engagement despite his departure from office.
During a keynote address at the Human Resources Management Association (SHRM) conference in San Diego, Biden spoke with SHRM president and CEO Johnny Taylor. In their discussion, he shared insights on how he’s occupied his time since leaving the presidency. While highlighting his accomplishments, he noted that international leaders often encourage him to stay involved in global issues.
“I’m on the phone. I’m not going to detail it,” he said. “A lot of European leaders want me to be engaged, and while I’m not formally involved, I do offer advice because, you know, things have changed.”
He added, “How can I step away? You may not see me doing this often, but I communicate with many Democrats and Republicans. They reach out, not necessarily because I have all the answers, but to bounce ideas around. I’m not actively looking for these conversations, they just happen.”
Biden also shared that he has been working on his memoir, mentioning that all presidents are expected to do so. “I’m working hard to finish the 500-page book my publisher expects by March of this year,” he said, indicating the pressure of the task at hand.
Since leaving office, Biden has been relatively low-profile. His first public speech as a former president occurred in April, nearly three months after vacating the White House. His brief re-emergence in May faced some backlash from members of his own party.
