Biden Says ‘Pause’ Instead of Pausing for Applause

President Joe Biden, 81, appeared to be having trouble speaking clearly at a campaign rally Wednesday.

Special Counsel Robert Hur described Mr. Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory” who often suffers from gaffes.

  • A Harvard-Harris University poll recently found that about a third of Democrats doubt Mr. Biden’s mental health.
  • Another poll revealed that 82 percent of Americans were concerned about his physical and mental health.
  • Only about a quarter of voters say Biden is physically and mentally fit to serve a second term, according to Quinnipiac.

That was also the case during Wednesday’s speech, when he read the word “pause” from a teleprompter rather than pausing to allow applause, according to the video.

“Imagine what we can do next,” Biden said. “Four more years. Pause.”

Mr. Biden repeatedly made gaffes. “Are you ready to choose freedom over democracy?” Biden Asked Supporters.

He also claimed to have “reduced” the national debt during his presidency. However, the national debt has reached its highest point in U.S. history.

Earlier this year, Biden argued for re-election, claiming he was ready for four more years because “I’m in the 20th century,” correcting himself before saying “21st century.”

To reduce mistakes, White House aides have given Mr. Biden notecards and suggested he follow a prewritten script, Reuters reported in January. His planned words are usually completely “crafted and vetted” by a number of advisors.
