Biden selects Delaware for his presidential library, but his board indicates they won't establish a budget as fundraising starts.

Joe Biden has decided to establish his presidential library in his home state of Delaware, but his new advisory board is facing challenges. They are currently struggling with budget planning to secure donations for the project.

The Joe and Jill Biden Foundation has assembled a committee consisting of 13 members, including figures like former Secretary of State Anthony Birken and long-time advisor Steve Richetti.

However, this decision comes amidst ongoing issues surrounding the construction of Barack Obama’s $850 million library and museum in Chicago, which have been met with significant critique, delays, and legal obstacles.

Rufus Gifford, a Democratic fundraiser appointed to lead the library committee, mentioned, “There are certainly people… who may not have previously considered these kinds of issues that are starting to think about them.” He further stated that they won’t establish a budget or set unrealistic goals.

The costs associated with presidential libraries have surged over the years. According to reports, the flagship facility could require several hundred million dollars.

Gifford speculates that the total expenses for Biden’s legacy projects might align with those of the Obama Presidential Center, which has a staggering $1.6 billion funding target. In contrast, the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library was completed for around $43 million back in 1997.

Bill Clinton’s library in Arkansas came in at about $165 million, while George W. Bush successfully raised $500 million prior to dedicating his library in Texas.

Historically, corporate and institutional donors have played a significant role in financing presidential libraries. However, Biden’s team might find it challenging, as many Democrats are hesitant to contribute, possibly slowing down their efforts.

There are indications that some potential donors are reluctant to give, feeling dissatisfied with how Biden concluded his second-term campaign just 107 days before the last election.

The Biden administration is working on constructing an engaging museum for his first term, which is intended to serve as a hub for education, leadership, and various policy discussions.

As of now, the specific site for the library has yet to be decided.

Recently, Biden, who underwent skin cancer surgery over Labor Day weekend, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has reportedly spread to his bones.

This diagnosis has ignited speculation that his administration might have hidden details regarding his health, both physical and cognitive, from the public.
