President Biden quickly responded, “I know,” on Friday after being gently reminded by the Energy Secretary that it was Vice President Kamala Harris' turn to speak at a news conference about Hurricanes Helen and Milton.
Harris, 59, attended the White House briefing virtually and Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm nagged Biden, 81, when she appeared to back away near the end of her remarks. I scolded him.
“I think we saved lives, not me, but I think we, all the people on the scene, saved lives. But there's still work to do. I'm going to do everything I can to get it done.” “I'm going to give it my all,” Biden said as he turned the last page of his binder.
Granholm, 65, seemed to realize that the president had reached the end of his prepared remarks, but continued.
“The fact of the matter is, we're in a situation where, oh, we have to do that,” Biden said, before the energy secretary, who was sitting next to the president, clapped him on the arm and pointed. . towards Harris on the monitor.
Mr. Biden responded, “I know.'' “I'll go to the Vice President right away.”
“She's my boss,” the president joked about Granholm.
As Biden continued speaking, he was interrupted a second time, this time by Harris.
Mr. Biden responded, “Hold on a minute, Madame Vice President.”
Biden ultimately handed over the funds to Harris after noting that his administration planned to ask Congress for additional funding for hurricane recovery.
“Then I bow to the president, the vice president,” Biden said, drawing laughter.
Since withdrawing from the 2024 race in July, the president has reportedly complained privately to allies that Harris and the Democratic Party seem to have “gone away from him,” according to NBC News.
According to reports, Mr. Biden is upset that Ms. Harris has not mentioned enough about her accomplishments and policies during the campaign, as the vice president seeks to differentiate herself from the president.
“He's mad. He's mad at her,” Trump tweeted at a campaign rally earlier this week, predicting that “there will be a blowout before the election” between Biden and Harris.
