On Sunday, Biden became the first sitting US president to visit the Amazon Rainforest.

After the speech, the president caused an uproar on social media, with users claiming they had wandered into a rainforest.

In his speech, he talked about how he achieved his goal of providing $11 billion in annual climate financing, a sixfold increase since 2021.

Biden then said that “no one” can reverse the “clean energy revolution” underway in the United States.

“Fighting climate change is the defining cause of my presidency,” Biden said Sunday. “It is no secret that I will be retiring in January. I will leave my successor and my homeland. [with] If they choose to do so, they need a strong foundation to build on. ”

Under the Biden administration, the United States has seen a significant increase in funding to combat climate change. Taxpayers spent about $1.5 billion in 2021, but that amount increased to $11 billion in 2024.

The administration will also increase “U.S. adaptation funding” sixfold to $3 billion annually, aimed at helping Third World countries build resilience to the impacts of climate change, according to a White House fact sheet. The amount was increased to

“Folks, we don't have to choose between the environment and the economy. We can do both,” Biden said. “The question now is which government will stand in the way and which will seize the huge economic opportunity.”

Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump has said he will reverse many of the climate change efforts that have been put in place.

Trump also plans to repeal many of the green energy initiatives included in Biden's anti-inflation law.

He also said during his presidential campaign that he was “not thrilled” with some of the big spending included in Biden's CHIPS Act, which also aims to address climate change.

On Saturday, President Trump announced that Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright will lead the Department of Energy in the new administration.
