Biden speaks with Olympians Ledecky, Lyles

President Biden spoke with Olympians Katie Ledecky and Noah Lyles on Tuesday, congratulating them on their recent gold medal wins at the 2024 Paris Olympics, according to the White House.

“This afternoon, the President called Team U.S. Olympians Katie Ledecky and Noah Lyles,” White House deputy press secretary Emily Symons said in a statement.

“The President congratulated swimmer Katie Ledecky on winning two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, making her the most decorated woman in U.S. Olympic history,” Simmons continued. “The President congratulated sprinter Noah Lyles on winning a gold medal in the 100 meters, making him the fastest man in the world. He also wished Lyles the best in the 200 meters and 4×100 meter relay.”

At the Paris Olympics, Ledecky recently won gold medals in both the 1,500-meter freestyle and the 800-meter freestyle. She is also currently the most decorated American female Olympian. The 2024 Olympics will be Ledecky’s fourth Olympic Games, her first being in London in 2012.

Lyles won gold in the 100 meters at last weekend’s Olympics. The Paris Games were his second Olympics, the Tokyo Games his first three years ago. He and Ledecky are both from the Washington, D.C., area.
