White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday that while President Joe Biden also wants a peaceful transfer of power, he “remains committed to his assertion that President-elect Donald Trump poses an “existential threat.” “I am doing so,” he said.
Jean-Pierre said Biden warmly welcomed Trump last week and Democrats have expressed comfort with the idea of a man likened to Adolf Hitler returning to the presidency. He was asked about his previous comments about Trump.
She said:
When the American people spoke up, there was an election. The will of the American people was very clear. So the president now has to deal with a peaceful transfer of power. We must respect the will of the American people. You can see that in the president's willingness to lead by example to make sure that happens, and that's what the American people deserve. That's what the president deserves, and I think he made it very clear when he spoke in the Rose Garden two days after the election, and he said he was very honest. , said these things — you know, I'm not quoting his words exactly, but these were not the results we wanted. And that's just being honest. They didn't, but we are now in a position where we believe he has to lead by example and show what a peaceful transfer of power looks like. That's what we're seeing from this president, and leading up to the point you made, I've been asked about existential threats. I was asked about threats to our democracy. The president intends to always be honest with the American people. He feels like he has an obligation. What he said still holds true, but we are in a different place now. we. The American people have spoken. They deserve a peaceful transfer of power. That's what this president wants to do. …His thoughts and what he says and what he thinks about it haven’t changed. That hasn't really happened and I think he was very clear about what he believed should have been done or how we should move forward. For now, he wants to lead by example and tell and show the American people what an efficient and effective transfer of power looks like. And that's what he believes the American people deserve, and I'm just going to leave. There it is for now.
Critics on both sides of the aisle simply do not believe Trump is an existential threat to America, given the fact that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris appear to respect his victory in the election. suggests that it was not.
