This rule is intended to prevent chemical accidents.
EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe said the document includes: “The strongest safety requirements ever for industrial facilities”
Restore the measures you had. rescinded by the Trump administration, include:
- Require companies to evaluate potentially safe technologies and processes that can limit risks.
- Reinstates the requirement for a “root cause” analysis after an accident.
These regulations were first introduced under the Obama administration following a 2013 explosion at a Texas fertilizer plant that killed 15 people.
That rule too impose new safety measures like:
- Require accident-prone departments to develop plans and take safety measures.
- Provide nearby communities with more information about safety risks.
The rule applies to 12,000 industrial facilities, including chemical manufacturers and distributors, refineries, food and beverage manufacturers, and agricultural distributors.
