Biden to deliver Morehouse commencement address as protests disrupt graduations across the country

President Biden is scheduled to deliver the commencement address at Morehouse College on Sunday, as protests continue to disrupt graduation ceremonies across the country.

Biden’s speech at a historically black college is an opportunity to shore up support among black voters, who have been sluggish in the run-up to the 2024 election. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Friday that Biden has been preparing his speech for several days with his senior advisers.

Jean-Pierre said the speech was “an opportunity to uplift future leaders and give an important message.”

Jean-Pierre added: “I can assure you that he has been working on these statements with his senior advisers over the last few days. He takes this very seriously.” “It’s going to have its moment, and I think we’re going to hear directly from the president about how he sees the future of this country and the future of the communities that they represent.”

Stefanik pushes back against House Democrats to censure her in ‘hopeless free fall’

“I think it’s a little insulting that Mr. Biden is railing against the Middle East when the star of our graduating class is Dr. King,” student DeAngelo Fletcher told the outlet. “It’s kind of insulting to bring him here, especially in an election year, to try to win over votes, especially young black people.”

Hundreds of Morehouse alumni also signed a letter earlier this year asking the university to rescind its invitation to Biden. Students and faculty at the university have accused Biden of supporting Israel’s “genocide” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip during the war sparked by the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack. .
