The Biden administration announced it would sell 1 million barrels of gasoline that had been stored for emergencies in order to “keep gasoline prices low” over the summer, a spokesman said.

The fuel will be released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve’s Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve, which was established in 2014 in response to disruptions to gasoline supplies in the New York City area due to Superstorm Sandy.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is focused on lowering prices for American households, especially as drivers head out for the summer driving season,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement. statement. “The strategic release of this stockpile between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July will ensure an adequate flow of supplies to the tri-state and Northeast region at a time when hardworking Americans need it most. ”

Many people still slam Biden’s comments, accusing him of trying to “buy votes,” while “student loan debt forgiveness” has so far only helped some college students. It also mentions his many promises. Meanwhile, other college students are wondering why they aren’t included in the pledge.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) accused Biden of “once again using our nation’s emergency fuel reserves to cover his disastrous inflationary policies in an election year.”

“Releasing 1 million barrels of gasoline from Northeast storage is Joe Biden’s desperate move to bring down the prices he has raised,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said in a tweet. “This storage is for emergencies, not a cover. Biden’s failed economic policies are supported.”

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the U.S. will consume 8.94 million barrels of gasoline per day in 2023, so Tuesday’s release would not cover more than three hours of the country’s average gasoline use.

The White House then released a statement Tuesday afternoon claiming that his energy policy is focused on promoting “green” technologies.

“This builds on President Biden’s other actions to reduce gas and energy costs, including historic releases from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and the largest investment in clean energy in history,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement. ” he said.

“While Republicans in Congress struggle to preserve tax cuts for Big Oil at the expense of hard-working families, President Biden believes that while America’s record energy production will help meet immediate needs, We are promoting a safer, more affordable, and cleaner energy future to lower your energy bills.”
