The White House announced Friday that President Biden will visit Florida on Sunday to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Milton.
The trip is scheduled to visit parts of the state affected by the deadly hurricane, which made landfall late Wednesday, causing massive flooding and destruction and leaving millions without power.
The White House has not said whether Biden will meet with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) during his visit. The two recently spoke about the hurricane on Thursday.
The president spoke multiple times this week at the White House about the federal government's response efforts to Milton and Hurricane Helen, and denounced false claims by former President Trump and his allies regarding the cleanup.
Biden said Thursday that Trump should “bring back lives” and especially stop promoting claims that people affected by the storm only received $750 in government assistance. He also called those who spread misinformation un-American.
Mr. DeSantis and Vice President Harris had a heated exchange this week over their response to the storm.
Harris accused DeSantis of not answering calls and playing politics, while the governor accused DeSantis of trying to get him involved in relief efforts while communicating with Biden. .
