Biden video saying he trusts son resurfaces after guilty verdict

Social media users reacted to President Biden saying in an interview last year that he trusted his son Hunter on Tuesday, hours after the president was found guilty of all charges in a firearms case.

Biden spoke about a range of issues during an interview with MSNBC that aired on May 5, 2023. In the final seconds of the interview on “The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle,” Biden was asked how potential criminal charges against Hunter Biden would affect his term as president.

“First of all, my son has done nothing wrong,” Biden responded. “I trust him. I have confidence in him, and that makes me proud of him and that impacts my position as president.”

On Tuesday, a Delaware jury found Hunter Biden guilty of making false statements on a federal firearms application when he was asked if he was an unlawful firearms user or addicted to controlled substances while buying a gun in October 2018.

Reacting to the video clip, one social media user simply posted: “Oops.”

“Hunter is the smartest man he knows!” another wrote.

“Biden is really the opposite of Trump. He’s got it all wrong,” another wrote.

On Tuesday, President Biden stood behind his son after the sentence was handed down.

“As I said last week, I’m president, but I’m also a father. Jill and I love our son and we’re so proud of who he is,” Biden said. “So many families who have had a loved one battle addiction understand the sense of pride they feel seeing their loved one overcome challenges, come out of recovery and become so strong and resilient.”

Biden has repeatedly said he would not use his presidential powers to pardon his son for any criminal convictions, and he stood by that pledge in a statement, saying he “accepts the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers his appeal.”
