During Thursday’s MSNBC debate coverage, MSNBC host Alex Wagner said President Joe Biden “did nothing to dispel the public’s perception that he’s old and was often disorganized during the debate,” and that Biden gave “incoherent and disjointed” answers to what should have been simple questions.
“There was a uniformly negative reaction to Biden’s performance tonight,” Wagner said. “Certainly it was about shining a light on who Donald Trump is, but it was also about Joe Biden fighting a caricature of himself as an emaciated person. This was the impression Trump wanted to convey to the public, and I think he did nothing to dispel the public’s assumption that he was very old and often lost his way in the debate.”
She continued: “Frankly, what should have been easy answers for him, whether it was an attack on abortion or abortion pills, were rambling and incoherent. He turned a response about abortion into a reference to the murder of immigrants. This person was clearly over-prepared and seemed to have a number of different talking points running around in his head, and as a result, it felt like an easy-to-read answer was delivered with little of the force and clarity it should have been. Donald Trump has, in some ways, been the most Trumpian of recent times, full of lies and misinformation, but that was almost an afterthought.”
