Joe Biden, or more precisely his handlers, decided to commute the sentences of 37 of the 40 federal death row inmates. This was the trigger Donald Trump to speak“It makes no sense.'' Mr. Biden's actions were certainly despicable, but they made great strategic sense for a Democratic Party seeking to satisfy its core base of supporters.
The reasoning behind Biden's decision had little to do with the partisan bromides distributed by Democratic commentators like Jessica Tarloff, who frequently appears on Fox News. Tarlov argued that Biden was morally outraged by the death penalty and felt compelled to act before leaving office. Another Fox News contributor suggested that Biden, a devout Catholic, may have been influenced by the Pope's sermons on the sanctity of life.
It is unclear why the killer who raped, tortured and murdered the girl did not also commit a “hate crime”.
These explanations are obvious nonsense. Mr. Biden's half-century political career directly contradicts these claims. Unlike the Pope, Biden has been an enthusiastic supporter of abortion, including the destruction of late-term fetuses. an experienced person. His crusade for the sanctity of life stops short of trying desperately to please the feminist zealots who overwhelmingly vote for his party.
During his time in the Senate, Mr. Biden had no hesitation in supporting the death penalty. In the 1990s, he defended the crime bill It included the death penalty, at a time when Democrats could still publicly support such measures. His stance changed when he started courting people like: ayanna pressley and other prominent voices from the progressive left.
Biden's current position on the death penalty does not reflect a long-standing principled defense of life. Rather, it appears to be a calculated move to appease the party's left-wing base, which often associates the death penalty with systemic racism and anti-Black racism. Handmaiden Media's portrayal of Biden as a lifelong opponent of the death penalty is blatantly misleading. He only adopted this position during the 2020 presidential campaign, by which time he was trying to align himself with the party's increasingly radical base.
One pressing question is why Biden commuted the sentences of only 37 of 40 federal death row inmates. The media suggests that the remaining three prisoners committed more heinous crimes than the others, even though most of the 37 were convicted of horrific and sadistic murders. If Biden really opposes the death penalty on principle; as his defenders claimwhy did he make those three exceptions? Had he consistently opposed what he considered cruel punishment, he probably would have commuted the sentences of all death row inmates.
Although this distinction lacks moral legitimacy, it clearly has a political purpose. Not all changes had the same value for Democrats. Those excluded from sentence reductions were reported to have engaged in acts of terrorism or committed “hate crimes.” Among them is Robert Bowers, the white supremacist who killed 11 Jewish worshipers at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life congregation in 2018. Dylann Roof, who killed nine black parishioners during a Bible study in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is the Chechen man responsible for the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings that killed three people and injured 264 others. All remain on death row.
We apologize for wondering why Biden's press secretary stated these exceptions. It is unclear why the killer who raped, tortured and murdered the girl did not also commit a “hate crime”. While the Boston Marathon bombings may fit the definition of terrorism, the actions of Bowers and Roof are probably no worse than those of some of the men whose sentences have been commuted.
I hope Biden suspects the worst about the exceptions he gives in the cuts. The crimes of those saved are at least as horrifying as Roof's and Bowers's, and in some cases more shocking, but they are no different from Democratic attempts to retain certain demographics. It had no significant impact. These crimes were committed against Hispanics and other groups no longer considered safe constituencies for Democrats. Mr. Roof's crimes were committed against black people, who still overwhelmingly vote for Mr. Biden's party. Of the 37 criminals whose sentences were commuted, 15 are black.
While the Jewish vote may not be as securely Democratic as it once was, the moderate liberal congregation in the Pittsburgh suburbs that Bowers targeted is likely to be heavily Democratic and a generous donor to Mr. Biden's party. is also included. One wonders if the killer would have been left on death row if the victim had been a politically conservative Hasidic Jew from Brooklyn.
Needless to say, all crimes committed by death row inmates are abhorrent, but some of these acts are quite arbitrarily labeled as “hate crimes,” while others are not. It is therefore natural for us to ask why some abominations are treated differently than others. Much like Biden's attempt to cancel student loans for college students, I am led to believe that this tacky act is driven by narrow Democratic interests and nothing else.
