Biden’s executive order does little to stop the flow of illegal immigrants

“We’re securing our border,” President Joe Biden declared on television screens, announcing new executive orders Tuesday that he says will drastically limit the number of illegal immigrants still flooding the U.S. southern border.

“I’m here today to do what Republicans in Congress refuse to do – secure our border,” Biden declared, without mentioning the fact that on his first day in office he took steps to roll back border security measures put in place by the Trump administration.

Biden then blamed Republicans for failing to pass a bipartisan bill proposed earlier this year because it had many flaws. He said the bill was based on Republicans refusing to do anything to keep the southern border issue hot until election season. This is despite Republican senators passing border security legislation, HR2, over a year ago and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer not allowing the bill to come up for a vote.

Biden said the executive order would limit the number of illegal border crossings to 2,500 per day and would take effect at midnight tonight. The limit would be lifted if the number of illegal border crossings remains below 1,500 per day for seven days.

“I’m pretty skeptical that this is going to have any immediate, widespread, dramatic impact on the border.”

of orderHowever, the 2,500 threshold also excludes the following:

  • Unaccompanied minors
  • People who need emergency medical care
  • Those who claim “credible fear”
  • People in countries that do not accept deportees

The order does not include people who are allowed into the U.S. through the CBP One app, thousands of them each day, nor does it include the thousands of people allowed to fly directly into the U.S. from eligible countries because of mass parole.

“And while asylum has already been banned for most migrants crossing the border illegally since Title 42 ended last year, that hasn’t stopped them coming, and they’re on track to reach their highest numbers on record by the end of 2023,” Fox News reporter Bill Melgin said. explanation.

Ultimately, the order is little more than providing talking points for Biden and other Democrats as they try to address one of the issues on which his administration has received its worst ratings in public opinion polls.

“President Biden has effectively legitimized crisis levels of illegal immigration that far exceed those demonstrated by any Secretary of Homeland Security he previously worked with,” said House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, noting that 1,000 illegal crossings a day are creating a major problem for the Border Patrol.

Republicans aren’t the only ones criticizing this political move. NBC News reporter David Noriega Said“I’m pretty skeptical that this is going to have any immediate, widespread, dramatic impact on the border.”
