Biden’s Released Migrants Still Camp on Streets of El Paso

EL PASO, Texas — Despite a noticeable slowdown in the flow of migrants into Texas in recent months, migrants released by the Biden administration are still sleeping or congregating in the heart of downtown El Paso. It can be seen that there are.

The migrants are said to be staying in a downtown church shelter at night and wandering through downtown commercial areas during the day. Many migrants beg or look for odd jobs to earn money, while others hang out in alleys and street corners where local shoppers pass.

Breitbart Texas spoke to Julieta, an immigrant from Nicaragua, and her family. Julieta said she and his family were on the streets downtown for 18 days after he entered the United States illegally. Julieta was accompanied by her father, mother and three young children. While the children played, the father sat in the shade and talked about his eventual arrival in Houston.

“If you find a job, you work when you get there,” says Julieta’s father. She said Julieta has relatives and friends of hers that she would like to contact in the Houston area. She told Breitbart that Julieta, Texas, that her son became ill while in her Border Patrol custody. He was diagnosed with chickenpox, she said, but God healed him before his family was released onto the streets of El Paso about three weeks ago.

While Julieta and her family talked about their long and arduous journey from Nicaragua, her young children paced up and down the sidewalk, playing in a plastic school bus. Like many other immigrants wandering around downtown, the family seems lost. Without the funds to leave the border city, many of the migrants told Breitbart Texas that they will wait and see what happens. Julietta said the shelter has not offered to fund her family’s trip to Houston so far.

More than 50 migrants were seen in the downtown area near the church on Friday, a significant decrease from a year ago, when hundreds of people released seeking asylum were camping there. Breitbart Texas visited the area just a year ago and noted a significant increase in the number of migrants living on the streets in cardboard and tarp shelters. The number of migrants reaching the border has declined since January due to a crackdown by the Mexican government.

The Biden administration and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reached an agreement in late December to reduce irregular migration. Few details of the agreement have been made public, but Mexico’s National Institute of Migration and the National Guard are reducing the number of migrants using public transport and the famous “Bestia” railway to reach northern Mexico. It’s obvious.

Customs and Border Protection officials say migrant arrivals at the El Paso Border Patrol fell by nearly 30 percent in April. The official, who was not authorized to speak to the media, said 30,400 migrants were apprehended by Border Patrol in April 2024, compared to about 43,000 in April 2023. Ta.

According to officials, the number of railroad crossings this year has decreased more than last year. Since October, 181,000 immigrants have entered the El Paso area, compared to 308,200 at the same time last year, a 41 percent decrease.

Despite the slowing of migrant arrivals, the situation remains challenging for Border Patrol agents in the region. “We are arresting nearly 900 people who enter the area every day, which may be less than last year’s 1,200, but it is still a crisis,” the official stressed.
