A recently revealed book discusses concerns among former President Biden’s aides about his physical health, suggesting they even considered the possibility of using a wheelchair if he were to be re-elected. This information comes from CNN’s Jake Tupper and Axios’ Alex Thompson.
The author notes that Biden’s physical decline, particularly highlighted by his struggle to walk, led to internal discussions about a wheelchair. However, any decision on such measures was postponed until after the election due to the circumstances. His spine issues were a significant factor in this situation.
The book, “The Original Crime: President Biden’s Decline, Concealment, and His Disastrous Choice,” was mentioned during an interview with Democratic insiders following the 2024 elections.
Biden has experienced several falls while in office, with one notable incident occurring during the Air Force Academy’s launch ceremony in June 2023, when he stumbled over a sandbag.
According to Tupper and Thompson, Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, indicated that another serious fall might necessitate the use of a wheelchair, which could complicate recovery given Biden’s age.
In 2024, prior to a discussion with President Trump, O’Connor conducted a physical examination, stating that the president was fulfilling his responsibilities without needing special accommodations.
Nevertheless, Axios reports that O’Connor has urged Biden to adjust his schedule to allow for more downtime.
Recent medical reports indicated that Biden’s walking was affected by “severe spondyloarthritis.” Both Axios and other sources have covered this health issue.
Biden’s family and White House staff have noted declines that extend beyond physical aspects, affecting his mental state as well.
When asked about these concerns on ABC’s “View” on May 8th, Biden dismissed them, asserting, “They’re wrong, there’s nothing to keep it going.” He added that he had opted out to avoid dividing the Democratic party.
