A year ago, the Houston Cougars advanced to the conference championship game in the final season of AAC play. Despite losing to Memphis in the ACC Championship Game, it was enough for the Cougars to earn the No. 1 overall seed in last year’s NCAA Men’s Tournament. The Cougars advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, but lost to Miami.
Houston is making it to the Big 12 for the first time this year and hopes to advance further in the NCAA Tournament. But first they have to compete in the highly competitive Big 12 Tournament. According to the latest estimatesThe conference will select nine teams to play in the NCAA Tournament, and that team will earn a spot on the big stage when it finally cuts the net at T-Mobile Center in St. Louis.
Houston is the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament thanks to a 15-3 conference record (and 28-3 overall record), but a number of talented teams fill the field. iowa entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, and the Cyclones defeated the Cougars at home in early January as the teams split the season series.baylor BYUKansas State is also ranked in the top 25, and those teams are the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 seeds, respectively, in the conference tournament.
Next up is Texas Tech University. The Red Raiders will enter the Big 12 Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the conference with an 11-7 conference record.Texas, Oklahoma, and TCU The remaining three teams are expected to earn bids to the NCAA Tournament.
Of course, the team that wins the Big 12 Tournament automatically qualifies for the NCAA Tournament. Because surprises can always happen in March…
