Bijou Phillips Receives Life-Saving Kidney Transplant
Bijou Phillips has undergone a life-saving kidney transplant, just five months after her hospitalization and beginning dialysis while waiting for a donor.
She expressed her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who came to my rescue and those who got tested to donate. You are all heroes.” She also mentioned her brother, Aron Wilson, who donated his kidney through a kidney exchange. “He saved lives, and the lives he saved went to someone special,” she added.
I think it’s incredible how systems like this work. Phillips revealed she found a perfect match through a voucher program, comparing it to receiving a kidney from a parent, which is a nice thought.
At 46 years old, she praised the surgical skill of Dr. Veer, who performed the transplant. “I’m so shocked by his magic! Kidney exchange, voucher programs, and his surgical skills! He didn’t cut any muscles, so I didn’t need much pain medication—just Tylenol,” she exclaimed.
Remarkably, Phillips felt the same as she had four months post-surgery just five days after leaving the hospital. She highlighted the need for such innovative techniques, calling Dr. Veer a lifesaver.
She extended her thanks to UCLA Health, noting the wonderful care she received from doctors, nurses, and coordinators. Her heartfelt post included a selfie with her brother in the hospital and a video of her exiting in a wheelchair, surrounded by flowers.
Friends responded positively in the comments, with Paris Hilton sharing, “Congratulations, I love you so much sis.” Others, like Bettina Anderson, left warming messages filled with love.
Back in February, Phillips’ representative informed the public about her hospitalization at UCLA for dialysis. She had previously received a kidney transplant from a friend in 2017 but faced complications as that kidney began to fail.
Initially, her circle struggled to find a suitable donor, but they remained hopeful that a match would appear soon. As the urgency grew, Phillips mentioned feeling “on the brink,” expressing her determination to stay strong for her 12-year-old daughter, Fianna, whom she shares with ex-husband Danny Masterson.
It’s tough to think about the challenges she’s faced, especially following her recent divorce from Masterson, who has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term. Yet, Phillips’ journey shows resilience and a touch of hope amid adversity.
