New Delhi:
Bilawal Bhutto, the former Foreign Minister of Pakistan, has publicly recognized the nation’s connections with terrorist groups, reflecting on the country’s troubled history. This statement comes after Defense Minister Khwaja Asif admitted to Pakistan’s role in supporting and financing terrorism.
Bhutto reflects on Pakistan’s history with extremism and suggests that the country has faced consequences and undergone reform since then.
In a discussion with Yalda Hakim on Sky News, Bhutto stated, “It’s no secret, as the Defense Minister pointed out, that Pakistan has a past… and as a result, we are currently facing challenges.”
“While we acknowledge this historical context, it’s important to note that it’s part of our past, not our present. Unfortunately, it remains an unfortunate chapter,” he added.
During a rally in Mirpur Kas, Bhutto spoke about Pakistan’s desire for peace, asserting that while the country is not seeking conflict, it would be prepared for war if provoked by India.
“Pakistan is a nation of peace, and Islam promotes peace. We don’t desire war, but if our territory is attacked, we must be ready to defend ourselves,” he remarked.
Recently, a clip surfaced showing Defense Minister Asif discussing with Sky News, where he commented, “For about 30 years, we have been engaged in this dirty work for the US… it’s been a mistake, and we have paid the price for it.”
The context for these remarks comes after a recent attack in Pahargam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities, purportedly linked to a banned terrorist organization with close ties to Pakistan.
