Bill Ackman took responsibility for the drone strike that killed three U.S. service members at President Biden’s feet in Jordan over the weekend. The attack is the latest broadside the billionaire hedge fund manager has launched against the 81-year-old commander-in-chief.
Ackman has been urging Democrats to move on from Biden, but said the idea of giving the incumbent another four years in the White House is “dangerous and foolish.”
He echoed the sentiments of Republican lawmakers who attacked Biden over the weekend for failing to deter America’s enemies in the region, particularly Iran, which is responsible for the attacks.
The 57-year-old founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management posted on his “It allows them to attack us with impunity, but at great cost.”
Ackman also appealed for continued U.S. assistance to Ukraine to repel Russian forces that had invaded the country, writing that the United States had “reached a place where our enemies no longer fear us.”
“We are not respected and the world is a more dangerous place as a result,” Ackman wrote.
Biden advocates say the president and Democrats support additional aid to Ukraine, but Republicans are hampering efforts to approve additional funding due to disagreements over illegal immigration.
Supporters of the president also cited the Trump administration’s decision in January 2020 to purge Qassem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Quds Force, after U.S. service members were killed in attacks by pro-Iranian militias. He also mentions what he did.
Mr. Ackman is backing Mr. Biden’s leading Democratic challenger, Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota, adding, “We need strength and leadership from the White House.”
The newspaper has contacted the White House for comment.
Three GIs were killed and at least 30 others injured in an attack on a remote military based in northeastern Jordan, not far from the border with Syria.
U.S. officials said the attack was carried out by drones operated by militias believed to be backed by Iran in Syria and Iraq. Iran denies involvement in the attack.
U.S. forces in the region have been on high alert since Hamas terrorists attacked Israeli soldiers and civilians on October 7, killing about 1,200 people.
“We had a tough day last night in the Middle East. We lost three brave souls,” the president said Sunday while campaigning in South Carolina.
Mr. Ackman, who has been in the public eye in recent months for slamming Harvard administrators over their response to Hamas attacks and anti-Israel sentiment in the student body, has said in recent months that Mr. Biden should decline his re-election bid. He has been vocal about his views. .
In November, he said that Biden had passed his “peak” and should withdraw from the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
