Bill Belichick Secures First Victory Over College Team

Bill Belichick has finally claimed a victory over a college team, as North Carolina State achieved its first win against a Power 4 opponent, defeating Syracuse 27-10 on the road, despite the absence of its starting quarterback.

This win allowed the Tar Heels to break a four-game losing streak, which included some tough losses against teams like California and Virginia.

“It feels good. It feels great,” Belichick remarked after securing his first ACC win, improving his record to 3-5 overall. “It’s been a positive turn. We’ve had opportunities in recent games but didn’t capitalize. I’m glad we made the most of this chance. We’re looking forward to the upcoming games in the ACC.”

Belichick’s debut season, however, hasn’t unfolded as planned, with the team facing more off-field controversies than success on the field.

Even if North Carolina State starts accumulating wins, the narrative often shifts. Off-field drama, including the role of general manager Michael Lombardi and Belichick’s 73-year-old status alongside his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, takes center stage when the program struggles.

This season started a bit rocky for North Carolina State, which had only previously beaten 1-7 Charlotte and Richmond from the Patriot League, alongside losing their first three ACC games comprehensively to teams like TCU and UCF in nonconference matchups.

After some tough moments, including a missed opportunity against California and a narrow loss to then-No. 1 Virginia, the team finally found a turning point against a struggling Syracuse team, which had dropped five consecutive games and was starting a freshman walk-on, Joe Filardi, who also plays lacrosse.

Though sometimes things can be predictable in sports, and it might be surprising how Belichick’s experience translates, Filardi ended up completing just 4 of 18 passes for a meager 39 yards.

On the other hand, Gio Lopez shone for the Tar Heels, hitting 15 of 19 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. The team rallied from a 10-3 deficit in the second quarter to score the last 24 points of the game.

Next Saturday, the Tar Heels aim for their second straight victory when they host Stanford.

“A good team won today, and I truly respect their perseverance throughout the season, especially after tough losses,” Belichick reflected. “We stumbled out of the gates but fought back, showcasing a strong second half and solid teamwork defensively while conceding only three points.”

“I’m really happy for the team’s success,” he added.
