Bill Belichick Caught at Stanley Cup Final
Maybe this is Bill Belichick’s peculiar way of firing up his team for a championship run.
The North Carolina State football coach made an appearance in Raleigh on Tuesday night for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, where his home team, the Hurricanes, faced off against the Golden Knights.
Cameras from ABC captured Belichick conversing with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman in a suite during the game’s first period.
This isn’t the first time Belichick has been seen at a Hurricanes playoff game; he was also present for Game 2 of Carolina’s first-round matchup against the Devils in 2025, accompanied by his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.
It’s unclear if Hudson joined him this time around.
Belichick is hoping to turn things around for the Hurricanes following a challenging first year at Chapel Hill. His inaugural season with the Tar Heels ended with a disappointing 4-8 record, leaving them out of playoff and bowl contention.
Back in January, he expressed optimism about his second year, suggesting he felt confident about the direction of the team.
“Working with so many young players has been fantastic,” Belichick mentioned during an appearance on “College Gameday.” “I’ve noticed considerable progress off the field in their training, conditioning, and strength. I mean, last year, we didn’t really bring in a recruiting class. We ended up with about 70 new players at the start. This year, I think we’ll be better positioned with some continuity as we head into spring ball. We’re excited about it.”
North Carolina’s Athletic Director, Steve Newmark, said in May that it takes time to build a program and shared his confidence in Belichick’s ability to elevate the Tar Heels.
“I think we’re feeling optimistic,” he added.
The Hurricanes are on a quest for their second Stanley Cup in franchise history, with their first win occurring two decades ago.
