This year will mark the first time in nearly half a century that Bill Belichick may not be coaching in the NFL.
Belichick may not have any other coaching options for the 2024 season after it was reported Thursday that the Falcons hired Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to fill their vacant head coaching position. It seems so.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. Belichick is known to have no other interviews scheduled, raising the prospect that the legendary coach will wait until 2025 to return to an NFL sideline.
He said Belichick could serve as a consultant or wait until the struggling team makes a coaching change in 2024.
Only two head coaching positions are open, and the Seahawks and Commanders are still trying to fill them.
No hires are expected to be made by either team until next week, when the conference championship game is played. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports..
Belichick has met twice with Atlanta, and CBS reported Saturday that Falcons owner Arthur Smith “seriously” wanted the former Patriots coach to take over.
Pro Football Talk recently reported that Belichick has little interest in coaching in major media markets and wants to avoid aggressive reporters who develop sources on staff and within the organization.

“I think if you take a step back, you feel like the team is probably looking for a younger coach. But I just thought it was an opportunity to get a player like Coach Belichick, who is the best of all time.”
Belichick had an impressive career with the Patriots over 24 seasons, including six Super Bowl championships, nine AFC Championships and 17 AFC East titles.

Equally impressive is how long future Hall of Famers have been employed in the NFL.
His first job in the league was in 1975 as an assistant to Baltimore Colts head coach Ted Marchibroda.
Now, Belichick might be taken off the sideline.
