Bill Belichick interviews for Falcons’ head coaching job after Patriots exit

Bill Belichick was back on the market and the Falcons immediately made him available for interviews.

Atlanta interviewed legendary football coach for vacant head coaching position. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This is the first job Belichick, 71, has interviewed for since parting ways with the Patriots last week.

Belichick's Patriots famously came back from a 28-3 deficit in the second half to defeat the Falcons in Super Bowl LI.

Now, Falcons owner Arthur Blank appears to be trying to bring the person who orchestrated this incident to Atlanta.

But the Falcons' coaching search has already had several qualified candidates interviewing, with Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce perhaps the biggest name the Falcons have asked for permission to interview.

Still, Belichick is a strong candidate to be added to the first list of likely several job interviews now that he's a free agent.

Belichick's tenure in New England ended after leading the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships, nine AFC Championships, 17 AFC East championships and 296 regular-season and playoff wins.

He is definitely a future Hall of Famer and became the biggest coaching name on the market after leaving the organization.

The Falcons are coming off three straight 7-10 seasons under former coach Arthur Smith, but haven't won since 2017.

“For me, today is a day of gratitude and celebration,” Belichick said in a press conference last week. “We had a vision to build a winning team here, to build a championship football team. It exceeds the amount of success we were able to achieve together.”

The Falcons' job is currently one of several coaching position openings that also include the Commanders, Chargers and Raiders.
